Motivated by both ideological solidarity with a fellow communist state and geopolitical interests, China provided North Vietnam with substantial military aid, including [[weapons]], supplies, and [[training]]. This assistance was especially important during the early years of the conflict, before the [[Soviet Union]] became more directly involved.

			China’s support, however, was not unconditional. Beijing sought to avoid direct confrontation with the U.S. and had its own concerns about maintaining influence over North Vietnam, particularly as Soviet-Vietnamese ties strengthened. Although China deployed some troops to assist with logistical support, it largely avoided direct combat. The Sino-Soviet rivalry complicated relations between China and North Vietnam, and by the war's end, Vietnam’s closer alignment with the Soviet Union led to tensions between China and Vietnam, contributing to the 1979 Sino-Vietnamese War.
