	~~TEXT GOES HERE~~		The '''3rd Field Hospital''' was opened in Saigon on 26 April 1965 as the second major [[U.S. Army]] hospital established in Vietnam during the war. Located next to Tan Son Nhut Air Base, it was well placed to receive wounded personnel arriving by helicopter and fixed-wing medical evacuation from across [[South Vietnam]]. Its location and facilities made it one of the most important Army hospitals in the country.

			As American involvement expanded, the hospital developed into one of the best-equipped U.S. military medical centers in Vietnam. It became the central blood depot for U.S. Army forces in-country, supported a wide range of specialist treatment, and was regarded by many as the ''“Walter Reed of the East.”'' In addition to treating combat casualties, its staff also handled major cases of malaria, hepatitis, renal failure, and other serious illnesses common during the war.

			The hospital was especially important during the fighting around Saigon, including the 1968 Tet Offensive, when casualty loads surged and security around the facility was tightened. Rather than being a quiet rear-area site, the 3rd Field Hospital operated under wartime conditions in one of South Vietnam’s most important military hubs, making it a key part of the U.S. medical system in Saigon throughout the conflict.
